About Us

Established in 2016, the Foundation grew from a growing awareness of how many people are deprived of opportunities that others may have been fortunate enough to receive. This conviction was strengthened through close exposure to the lives of factory workers and their families.

Inspired by the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, the Foundation is guided by the values of compassion, dignity, and service. Its work focuses on creating opportunities for education and growth, while addressing health, nutrition, and other challenges that disproportionately affect underserved communities.

At the heart of the Foundation’s work is a simple purpose - to awaken hope and dignity among those who have been left with fewer opportunities, and to help create the conditions in which people can learn, grow, become more independent, and thrive.

Sahgal Foundation was founded on a simple belief - that access to opportunity should never be determined by circumstance.

“Kindling hope is very important to me. At the heart of our work is the belief that greater opportunities can change outcomes, and that we must remember those who have less fortunate circumstances and give back some of what we have been fortunate enough to receive.”

“To me, medicine has always been about more than treating illness. It is about listening, understanding, and making sure that people—especially women and those who are too often overlooked—have the opportunity to live healthier, more dignified lives. If what we have learned and been fortunate enough to receive can be used to create opportunities for others, then that is a legacy worth leaving behind.”
