Viney Sahgal
Viney Sahgal is an engineer, industrialist, entrepreneur and civic leader whose life has been shaped by a spirit of enterprise, a commitment to public service and a belief in giving back to the communities around him.
He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur, completing his professional education in 1963.
A defining chapter
Mr. Sahgal served as Chairman and Managing Director of Quality Needles Pvt. Ltd., a company he transformed from a small-scale unit into the world’s largest independent manufacturer of suture needles.
Under his leadership, the company developed and manufactured over 3,000 types of needles for use across a wide range of surgical procedures. He also robotised the entire manufacturing unit, combining precision engineering with advanced manufacturing processes.
The company went on to export to more than 30 countries, including the USA, UK, Germany and Brazil. His contribution to industry was recognised with the SMTA Udyog Award in 2009.

Engaged with the community
His civic work has focused on infrastructure and environmental concerns, with papers and initiatives addressing power supply, waste management, industrial waste disposal and storm-water drainage.
His commitment to creating opportunities for others continues through his role as Chairman of Yuva Healthcare Skilling Pvt. Ltd., which trains young people as paramedical personnel. The organisation reflects his belief that education and practical skills can create meaningful opportunities while strengthening essential services such as healthcare.
